Luminoria was developed by a team of students as part of a 5 day charette to create an interactive media installation, under the guidance of Eddy Man Kim.
Luminoria is a projection of basic geometric forms on to a field of strings arranged in 3-D space. The project consists of a reconfigurable frame threaded with string, and a projector at its base projecting upwards.
The projected shapes were generated by a parametric script using ambient sound as an input. Higher ambient noise levels trigger faster movements in the projection, responding to the ebb and flow of activity in a room while providing a subtle visual indicator of noise levels.
The constructed model of Luminoria is intended as a scaled down version of a larger hypothetical installation involving spaces made from several sets of strings pulled across a room, and multiple projection points.
